My Super Easy 5 Ingredient Cookie Recipe For Busy Mums

AKA. Crafting the Perfect Lactation Cookie for Health-Conscious Mums.

As a new mama, I’ve quickly learned that not all snacks are created equal—especially when it comes to supporting my body through breastfeeding.

While there's a dizzying array of store-bought options claiming health benefits, many fall short when it comes to meeting the nutritional needs of a breastfeeding mother.

That’s why I got busy in the kitchen to create something genuinely nourishing, not just for me but for anyone looking for a healthier snack alternative.

I created these during a power nap. 5 mins to prep and 10 mins to cook!

So, My Super Easy 5 Ingredient Cookie Recipe For Busy Mums 👱🏻‍♀️

The Problem with Store-Bought Options

Store shelves and online ads are brimming with products labeled "healthy," "low-fat," "gluten-free," or "plant-based." However, these products, including many marketed specifically as lactation cookies, often contain high levels of sugars and unhealthy fats.

For example, a big-name brand's lactation cookie might list ingredients like wheat flour, brown sugar, and various additives that don’t exactly support a mother’s nutritional needs during breastfeeding.

Here is the ingredient list for a big name brand:

Wheat Flour, Oats, Butter (cream (from milk), salt), Brown Sugar, Sugar, White Chocolate Compound (10%) [sugar, vegetable fat ( emulsifiers (492, soy lecithin)), whole milk powder, emulsifier (soy lecithin), flavour], Egg, Water, Brewer Yeast, Linseed, Raising Agent (450, 500), Flavour.

They are very high in sugar and glucose more broadly... alongside numbers. Breastfeeding arguably requires more protein and fat than carbohydrates which makes their nutritional profile less than ideal.

These cookies are not just suboptimal in terms of nutrition but can also lead to unwanted digestive issues due to ingredients like brewer's yeast, which, despite its benefits for milk production, can cause bloating and discomfort for some.

Brewers Yeast which is anecdotally beneficial for milk supply also boasts some horrible gastric side effects for a lot of people (bloating, diarrhoea, constipation)… the last thing you want trying to care for a new born whilst your gut is still repairing.

A Better, Simpler Solution

In response to the misleading marketing of these products, I’ve crafted a lactation cookie recipe that is not only effective but also truly beneficial for health.

This recipe is gluten-free, Paleo, and Keto-friendly, making it suitable for anyone, especially breastfeeding moms who need real nourishment.

Here's how to make these delicious and wholesome lactation cookies:

5-Ingredient 100% Natural Gluten Free, Paleo Approved, Keto Friendly Lactation Cookies You Can Make In Just 20 Minutes From Start To Finish
5-Ingredient 100% Natural Gluten Free, Paleo Approved, Keto Friendly Lactation Cookies You Can Make In Just 20 Minutes From Start To Finish

5 Mins | Ingredients for 6-8 cookies:

  • 4 Tbsp Room Temperature Butter: Adds richness and helps bind the ingredients.

  • 1 Cup Almond Flour: A low-carb, gluten-free alternative that’s high in vitamins and minerals.

  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder: Helps the cookies rise slightly for a better texture.

  • 2 Tbsp Stevia-Based Granulated Sweetener: A sugar-free option that sweetens without the glucose spike.

  • Optional Additions:

  • Cinnamon: Adds flavour while helping with fat metabolism and blood sugar regulation.

  • Nutmeg: Known for its lactation support and aromatic flavor.

  • Hemp Seed Flour: Can replace almond flour for an additional boost in milk production.

  • Collagen Protein Powder: Provides essential proteins without altering the taste.

  • Cranberries: For a burst of flavor and antioxidants.

10 Mins | Simple Baking Instructions:

  1. Prepare: Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. Mix: Combine all ingredients in a bowl by hand or use a mixer for a more uniform texture.

  3. Shape: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared tray. Flatten each slightly with the back of a spoon or fork.

  4. Bake: Place in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges begin to brown.

  5. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. They are quite delicate when hot, so handle them gently.

These cookies are best enjoyed warm, offering a comforting, delicious treat that’s packed with benefits specifically tailored for breastfeeding moms but are also fantastic for anyone seeking a healthier snack.
