Low Carb Fish Taco Recipe - It's Delish!
Who likes the idea of Taco Tuesday to mix up your mid-week meals?
Here's a delicious and healthy low carb taco recipe that features Hoki (or swap this for any protein of your choice - like beef shown above) and tonnes of fresh veggies.
These tacos are a great way to enjoy a tasty meal that's high in protein, healthy fats, and low in carbohydrates.
Unlike the typical tacos you might find at restaurants that can be loaded with salty and sugary sauces, these homemade tacos are a fantastic choice to switch up your midweek meals with a nourishing twist.
Low-Carb Hoki Fish Tacos with Fresh Veggies
Ingredients:
For the Tacos:
2-3 Hoki fish fillets (or protein of your choice)
4 low-carb (Keto) wraps by Farrah's (or your preferred brand)
2 cups fresh spinach leaves
1 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup diced red onion
1 ripe avocado, sliced
Fresh lime wedges
Why bother with a low carb or keto wrap? These wraps by Farrah's have 2.5g of carbohydrates per wrap. Compared with an ordinary wrap (that we often buy the kids) that has around 27. That's right. Over 10 times the amount of glucose hitting your bloodstream. That can make a big difference to your blood sugar levels.
For the Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce:
1/4 cup hot sauce (like Tabasco)
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
Juice of 1 lime or 2 tablespoons vinegar
Instructions:
Prepare the Fish:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place the Hoki fish fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
Make the Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce:
In a small bowl, combine the hot sauce, honey or maple syrup, and lime juice (or vinegar). Adjust the sweetness and spiciness to your preference.
Assemble the Tacos:
Warm the low-carb Keto wraps in the microwave or oven.
Lay each wrap flat and layer with fresh spinach leaves.
Place a piece of baked Hoki fish on top of the spinach.
Sprinkle your diced tomatoes, red onion over the fish.
Add sliced avocado on top of the veggies.
Drizzle with Hot Sauce:
Drizzle the sweet and spicy hot sauce over the taco fillings. Feel free to adjust the amount based on your spice tolerance.
Squeeze Fresh Lime:
Finish off with a squeeze of fresh lemon/lime juice over the top.
Fold and Enjoy:
Gently fold the sides of the wrap to create a taco shape.
Serve the tacos immediately with extra lemon & lime if you fancy.
Why These Tacos Are Awesome:
These low-carb Hoki fish tacos are a fantastic option for a nutritious and flavourful meal. They're made with wholesome ingredients, and the Keto wraps keep the carb count low while still allowing you to enjoy the taco experience. Unlike restaurant tacos that can be loaded with additives, these tacos give you full control over the ingredients and flavours you're adding.
Remember, variety is the spice of life, and these tacos can be a fun and delicious addition to your meal rotation. While the Keto wraps are a great occasional treat, it's also essential to incorporate a range of whole, unprocessed foods in your diet for optimal health.
So, gather your ingredients, assemble your tacos, and savour the goodness of a balanced and scrumptious meal!
